Daiwa BG Spinning Reel
I gave the Daiwa BG a try because the price was so reasonable. I’m so glad that I did because this spinning reel is awesome! It is very lightweight, durable, and strong. It has 6 ball bearings + 1 reverse bearing. It is the smoothest drive system that I’ve ever felt. The line casts easily and smoothly. The spool is made of aluminum.
It has an infinite dual anti-reserve system. That is what I like best about the reel because the system doesn’t let the line slip and turn backward. I haven’t had any problems with the line binding up. I’ve been using a 50lb braided line. The handle is comfortable for all-day use. There isn’t movement with it after being screwed in and I have no struggles with keeping control when reeling in the big fish.
I have to say that I’m really impressed with this reel. I have been fishing for a long time and my reels are mostly Penn and Mitchell but this is right up there as one of my favorites. I originally bought it because it is priced so low. I didn’t have high expectations, but I am so happy with my choice.
I’ve received many compliments and inquiries about what brand, type, and performance. So obviously it’s appealing enough to draw attention. So, if you are looking for an attractive spinning reel, this is a contender.
Overall, performance, appearance, and price are all five stars from me! This is my favorite. This is my recommendation for anyone just starting fishing or for anyone that is in the market to add to their collection.
Pflueger Supreme XT Spinning Reel
Pflueger Supreme XT 30X is an incredible spinning reel that comes with ten bearings! The 6.2 to 1 gear ratio allows the Pflueger Supreme XT 30X to retrieve quickly. A one-piece drag system lets out ten pounds of drag, and it has a ten-pound braid capacity. Pflueger Supreme XT 30X is our pick for the Best Spinning Reel Under 150.
The drag on the Pflueger Supreme is smooth and easy to work with. It is a one-piece system, which gives it a few advantages. First of all, the single-piece design allows the rod to stay lightweight. There are no extra washers or other parts to weigh it down. No matter how much tension I use, the drag is terrific, and I want it to stay that way.
Another benefit of the one-piece drag system is that there is less opportunity for anything to break. You will not have to replace any of the parts in your Pflueger Supreme as they were designed for easy maintenance.
The slow oscillation gearing system that moves the spool up and down is perfect for keeping the line threaded without any problems. But, it does not change the speed of retrieve or the action of the bail arm. It allows me to cast long distances and also lets me control the retrieve speed naturally.
All of the bearings use the same high-quality materials as the rest of the reel, so you can trust that it is going to be that smooth for as long as you have it.
Penn Battle II Spinning Fishing Reel
Penn Battle II beats out the competition not only in price but also in features and top-notch design. This is the second generation of Battles and Penn has really outdone itself when it comes to this upgrade. The gearing is better and smoother making this just the right spinning reel for anglers who are looking to fish like a pro.
The reel comes with an oversized soft handle grip which is extremely useful when you need extra grip to real that larger fish in. It is also nice that even if the handle gets wet, it won’t get slippery.
Inside the reel is 5 ball bearings that are fully sealed to prevent corrosion from saltwater. They also give the spinning reel ultimate speed for a smoother retrieval for your fishing experience. This feature is not usually seen in a reel in this price range.
Penn Battle II has a full aluminum body, spool, handle, roster, and even the bail wire. The aluminum bail wire is heavy duty so it can take a beating. It offers a smooth high performance at an unbeatable price. Its aluminum body offers a level of durability that just cannot be beaten at this price.
Even though it is made of aluminum instead of graphite, it is quite lightweight. The counterbalancing system allows it to be a versatile spinning reel for any type of fishing adventure.
The Penn Battle II has a stylish and sleek look. Its gold details are there to help you in quite a few ways. On the spool itself, there are gold rings to show the capacity of the line. It allows you to see how much line is there on the reel. So, if you see this ring you will know that you need to add more line.
KastKing Sharky III
KastKing Sharky III is the next-generation spinning reel with pure power, smooth handling, and enough features to make it the favorite part of your fishing collection. This is the third generation of Sharky and KastKing has held nothing back.
This generation is smoother than the previous two generations. Its extensive list of new and improved features makes this an amazing upgrade. The bail is smoother and moves with such fluidity that you can feel the high quality of materials used. KastKing has spared nothing in the effort to create an impressive spinning reel that any angler would love to use.
Sharky III is an amazing lightweight reel often used by pro anglers. Sharky III offers great value for its price with features that easily beat the competition. It has many great features that make it one of the best spinning reels under 150 when matched with other spinning reels in its class.
Sharky III is as sleek and stylish as it is well-engineered. It is lightweight and easy to use compared to even more expensive competition. You will be just as impressed with its outward appearance as you are with the makings of the inside.
The red details on the shark fin braid allow you to use more line and see when you are coming to the end of the current one. This gives you more of an opportunity to reel in larger stronger fish than you have ever before.
Sharky III is manufactured by KastKing which is in New York. The company is well known for manufacturing quality fishing equipment at affordable prices. The reel comes with a one-year peace of mind warranty. This means that KastKing stands behind its build quality and design.
Penn Fierce III 8000
I went to one of the fishing gear shops to check out reels for surf fishing. Overall, I was more drawn to the Penn brand and decided I would wait and see if I could find a better reel. If you’re looking around, know that I did the same and this is by far one of the best Penn reels on the market.
Ok, so let me talk a bit about the reel itself. It’s a great looking reel! Very sexy red and black 🙂 As someone who has been at this for a long time, I know that it’s not always about the look of the reel but it’s about performance and the balance lends to the performance. With that being said, I’d like to note that the appearance is one of the most stunning, “studly” (as my wife says), sexy reels that I own.
I don’t know but it’s just something about the black full metal body and red trim that is appealing. But let me state that this has a full metal body, and it is awesome. Knowing that it was full metal, it does weigh more than other reels but again, if you pair it with a correct fit rod, it doesn’t feel heavy at all.
It fits easily on my 11’ Ugly Stik rod. It balances out very nicely. It is rated for a monofilament line, but I use it with a 65lb braided line. My favorite part of this reel is that it has unlimited drag. This is something that the Penn Fierce II does not have and that is important when I’m out in the ocean.
KastKing Baitfeeder III Reel
KastKing Baitfeeder III is a strong and durable reel. Spinning reels are more widely used because they are easy to use. KastKing Baitfeeder III can be used with the most lines that you would use for a baitfeeder. The dual drag system offers a smoother experience. It provides the ease of letting the line run with the fish or use the front reel to fight those big fish to the ground.
KastKing Baitfeeder III is built with a stainless-steel main shaft and precision gears. It also has a top-of-the-line carbon fiber drag washer. To add to its quality the KastKing Sharky Baitfeeder III uses the CNC aluminum Shark Fin Ready Spool.
The 10+1 bearings of KastKing Sharky Baitfeeder III will give you a smooth feel. Bearings are placed within the reel for stability, smoothness, and support. The increased number of ball bearings allows for a smoother and easier use of the reel.
KastKing Sharky Baitfeeder III looks sleek in black and red colors. It has interchangeable handles for either a left or right hand. It has a T-handle grip and oversized T-knobs for a better comfort grip.
This reel is lightweight yet powerful for both saltwater and freshwater fishing. With this spinning reel, you can cast and retrieve all you want because it is very smooth.
Okuma Cedros High-Speed Spinning Reel
This is a top-notch, excellent spinning reel for a serious fisherman. If you are looking for a reel to add to your collection for jigging, I highly recommend the Okuma Cedros CJ-65S! This is a spinning reel with power and fast retrieve. I’ve pulled in massive tuna that I could have never caught with other reels. I have several Okuma reels and this one is the strongest, most powerful, and smoothest of them all.
Other than performance, the style is gorgeous. The aluminum, corrosion-resistant body and rotor look awesome with gold and blue. The oversized handle is a good size for me because I have large hands. Also, the handle switches easily for a left/right retrieve, which is good because I’m a lefty and this has been a problem with other reels in my past.
So now let’s talk about performance… Line capacity is 430/12 310/15 260/20. The line retrieve is over 45 inches. The gear ratio is 5.7:1. It has 4HPB + 1RB and a max drag of 31 lbs.
It does weigh a little over 22 ounces, but I have to say, I don’t really notice the weight. It feels just as light and comfortable as many lighter reels I’ve used. You cannot find anything better for this price! You won’t be disappointed.
Cadence CS8 4000 Reel
My buddy and I trout fish. He has a CS8 2000 model, and I tried his out and really liked it, so I went to buy my own. I decided to go for the CS8-4000 model because the price difference wasn’t much more, but the specs were a little better. Both his 2000 and my 4000 are sturdy and solid.
His spinning reel weighs just a couple of ounces less than the one that I have, but the difference is minimal and doesn’t make a huge difference at all because the 4000 model is only 8 ½ ounces. It’s very lightweight. The gear ratio is better with the 4000 model. It is 6.2:1. There are 9 stainless ball bearings and 1 instant anti-reverse bearing. It’s hard to understand how it is so lightweight with 9 ball bearings!
The gears and main shaft and arm of the handle are all aluminum. The handle is oversized and comfortable to hold. The retrieve switches from left to right. I use it with a 20lb braided and the rotor spools the line nice and even.
I love this reel. I have no reason to ever spend more money because this is all I ever could want or need!
